Part 1: Sunday Sept 19, 11am-3:30pm
Part 2: Sunday Sept 26, 11am-3:30pm
Join us for a two class part where we learn all about clay and ancient pottery techniques. Before the pottery wheel and modern kilns, our ancestors used methods such as coiling, pinching, paddling and shaping to mold clay into works of art used in every day life. Pottery played a central and direct role in our relationship with the earth.
In this class we will play with naturally harvested clay, make our own temper and create and mold pieces with our hands. In the second part of the class we will learn about firing techniques using simple and effective methods that do not require modern kilns. You will leave with your own hand made, unique piece and everything you need to know to make your own pottery.
Class includes all materials and a delicious lunch. Overnight accommodations are available for $65.
Please note that our home is accessible via NJT, class schedule is designed to accommodate train schedules from the Harriman Station. We will pick you up and drive you back to the station.
All workshops will be outdoors to reinforce social distancing. We will have a fire going to keep us warm, a delicious seasonal vegetarian lunch is also included.
